August 2011 - Price increase- In August I will be raising my prices. The new prices will represent a better reflection of the value of time spent on the artwork, and the number of pieces I am able to produce to fill upcoming shows. As always, I strive for artistic growth and quality of work. Although all prices you see advertised are new; the official date of the increase will be at the start of the Loveland Sculpture Invitational, August 12th. For those of you who have been contemplating purchase, I encourage you to contact me before that date to lock in your price. Loveland Sculpture Invitational- One of the nation's foremost sculpture events, LSI (and Sculpture in the Park next door) are the largest assembled group of sculptors and sculpture in the United States. I am a new participant to this show, so please help me make this year a success! Scroll down to my events section for more information, and find out how to win one of three pairs of tickets to the Premier Party. |

Life at the Bottom - and Thoughts on Papermaking If there's one word that comes to mind about this new piece, for me it is the word 'organic.' Organic is biologic; vegetable and animal and chemical processes, rather than mineral ones. Organic is also a means of a natural process of coming together (here the term can be used in an artistic sense.) While creating the mud, I was able to take advantage of many of the specialty papers I have as part of my palette. Many of these papers are made from materials such as mango, mulberry, papyrus, and bark; some contain inclusions of leaves and flowers, and the fibers are loose and obvious. Our standard white paper is cotton or wood pulp ground, bleached, and flattened. Paper is a wonderful traditional material. As I worked the background, I contemplated the process of papermaking, and the parallels it has to the thick, gooey, mud I was representing. Little bits of organic vegetable matter litter this piece. I've even incorporated real segments of horsetails in my background. |
