To Market, to Market... One of the fun things about being in a good show is watching all the announcements come in from my friends who are also participating! I really enjoyed reading my Facebook news feed on the day the jury results were released for Art and the Animal, and lately my email inbox has been filling with invitations to the Art Students League of Denver's Summer Art Market happening this weekend. The Summer Art Market is a great festival. Not as crowded and with a smaller number of participating artists, SAM has a much more relaxed atmosphere than some of the larger festivals. Yet the many, many active Colorado artists pack it with quality work, making the Summer Art Market is one of the best places to buy art in Colorado.
I hope I will see you there this weekend, too! |

Sweet Oasis 20" x 10" |
The Erythrina veluntina tree of South America blooms in the dry season. In drought, the nectar it provides at times can be the only source of fresh water in the area. Many animals, including the Noronha skink, visit its flowers to drink, bringing it some very unusual pollinators. Sweet Oasis will be on exhibit in Art of the Animal Kingdom XIX at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont, opening next weekend. |

Technique Showcase: July 14th Whether white-on-white or utilizing the range of handmade papers from around the world, cut paper sculpture produces unique, eye-catching visuals. This little-used medium is gaining in popularity both as an illustration technique and as a fine art medium. I will demonstrate tools for transferring, cutting, gluing, and building armatures and frames. Explore the variety of papers available on the market, and try your hand at folding, scoring, and shaping this very tactile medium. |
