Changing Pace
I'm going to try to keep my intro here short. Not an easy task, because as you will soon find out, I have been up to a lot and this newsletter is packed full of events! Keep an eye out for two openings this week: the Society of Animal Artists at the Loveland Museum/Gallery if you are in the mood for a formal evening exhibition, and the ASLD Summer Art Market if you are in the mood for a sunny outdoor festival. I've been using the words 'roller coaster' a lot lately. This year has truly been one, with my schedule condensing and drawing out, downs and ups and UPS!, and those fast, wild corners. Already this year, I've traveled to New Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago from the Don Eckelberry Award, and I just got back from Texas for an artists' workshop. Even my pace of working in the studio seems to be evolving... my traditional pace has been to work on one paper sculpture at a time, finish (or set aside for later,) frame, and repeat. I currently have five paper sculptures sitting in my studio awaiting framing, and even more unusually, I've found myself actively working on several at once with varying stages of completion. It's made things fairly exciting... read on!

Morning Stretch 9" x 10" |
|||
Anatomy, gesture, and movement become the stress and tension of muscles in slow motion. The weight of heavy feathers, long limbs; the twist of a neck. The shivers that travel down bird skin to lift every feather in turn and shake away stiffness. A breeze that lifts a light body for a long travel in a dance with air.

A Well-Behaved Beast 16" x 19" From the 'Formal Wild' series: What is a well-behaved beast? Who judges a beast's standards of behavior? Is it well behaved when it sits quietly and obediently, fitting into a box of convenience? Or is it well behaved when it rejects conventions and acts as a wild animal is meant to act in the wild? |

Park Hill Garden Walk This will be my fourth year at the Park Hill Garden Walk - and this year I am brave enough to take my paper art studio out into the elements of plein air!
I'll be exhibiting completed paper sculptures and demoing live paper sculpture/collage techniques at one of the 10 beautiful gardens in the tour of the Park Hill neighborhood. Spring is in full bloom, and summer is in the air. It's time to be outside among the flowers!
